BP Myth Busters: The Only Thing to do in Hilton Head is go to the beach…?

Hmm… as great as the beaches are, we beg to differ that they are the ONLY activity to enjoy here– there’s tons to do on Hilton Head Island! We’re busting this myth with 5 examples of other great activities on the island– other than the sand and sun!

  1. Sea Pines Forest PreserveImage result for forest preserve hhi
The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is one of Hilton Head’s greatest treasures. From a myriad of wildlife, beautiful serene paths and bridges, and Spanish moss hanging all around, this is an oasis away from the beach, with hours of exploring for you to do. From the swamps, to the lakes, to the tree covered walkways, you truly feel as though you are in a different and very special untouched world. Another great piece to the forest preserve is the picnic benches overlooking the lake, for a picnic after a little exploring. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is an absolute must on Hilton Head, and is so easily accessible from all of our properties— especially those that are in Sea Pines Plantation.
  2. Coastal Discovery Museum

Whether you’re into snakes, butterflies, turtles, or shells, the Coastal Discovery Museum in Honey Horn Plantation is the place for you. Between their educational tours and classes that run every day, to their fun interactive museum, there’s tons to do here. There is a butterfly enclosure, live snakes, a beautiful gazebo and dock that walk out over the marshes for a beautiful view, and amazing employees who are more than willing to give you some information about whatever you’d like! This is a great spot for adults and children alike, and a wonderful place to get out of the sun for a couple of hours.
  3. Old Town Bluffton

From Old Town charm, amazing restaurants, a bustling farmer’s market, and tons of shops and history, this is a great place to spend an afternoon strolling the oak draped streets in Bluffton. There has been a recent boom of business in Old Town Bluffton that has made it a great new hub for tourism just minutes off of Hilton Head Island. From cute boutique stores, an amazing and expansive farmer’s market on Thursday’s, and wonderful restaurants just oozing with southern charm, this is not a place to miss!
  4. Shelter Cove Marina & Shelter Cove Towne Center

With a myriad of shops, restaurants, entertainment, and much more, Shelter Cove has always been a famous Hilton Head Island stop. Recently, the Shelter Cove Towne Center opened up across 278 featuring even more shops, a great park, a wonderful view of the marsh and ocean, and restaurants, activities, etc. Both of these are great places to spend some time with your family, get out of the sun, and maybe even have a little shopping spree!
  5. Pinckney Island

Maybe on your drive to or from Old Town Bluffton, you can make a stop at the Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge, nested right in between the two bridges that take you off of Hilton Head Island. This is nature at it’s finest, and more pure. From bird watching to just sitting down and taking in the sounds of nature uninterrupted, we recommend this spot for anyone just needing a little quiet getaway.

The Essential Beach Packing “Do Not Forgets”

Sometimes, packing is a daunting task. We’ve all been there, luggage open on our bed, piles of clothes surrounding it, with a mental checklist of what to bring. And we’ve also all been there when you’re 2 hours into your drive to your vacation and you think “uh oh”, because you just remembered you were supposed to bring something and somehow forgot it.

Well this list is meant to hopefully serve as a little reminder of some random things that would likely slip your mind while packing! Most items are things you can buy once you arrive, but paying $15 for sunscreen at the beach as opposed to bringing your same $9 sunscreen from home can make all the difference.

Don’t forget that important arrival packet we mail you!!! It has your passes to get into the area you’re staying in, as well as your code or keys to get into your property– and you don’t want to have to make an extra trip to the office after 12 hours in the car, you want to get to your house or villa and hop right into the pool because by then, you’re on vacation mode!

Seaside Treasures: 17 South Live Oak

Off the entry, there is a half bath and stairs to the upper level that has two bedrooms. First is the master suite, featuring a king bed, flat screen TV, private deck and large bathroom with walk in shower. Adjacent to the master bedroom is another guest room with king bed and private bath also featuring a walk in shower.

To the left of the entry on the first level, behind the living room, there is a wet bar leading to the dining room and sliding glass doors to the deck. The adjacent gourmet kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, featuring granite counters, stainless appliances, a breakfast bar and an oversize refrigerator. There are sliding glass doors to the screen porch for dining alfresco.  Behind the kitchen, there is a large laundry room with a half bath.

The additional bedrooms can be accessed by a stairwell behind the kitchen or through a private outside entrance by the garage. At the top of the stairs there is a den with a queen sleeper sofa, a kitchenette and a large flat screen TV. Off the den is a small room with two twin beds. The last two guest bedrooms are also located off the den. Both have a private bathroom, but one has a King bed and the other a Queen Bed. Within the queen bedroom you will also find a bunk bed with a twin on top and full bed on the bottom.

This is the perfect home for a multi-generational vacation with great bedroom separation, two indoor living areas and extraordinary outdoor living space in both the front and the back of the home. Contact us to make this your next vacation home!

Brunching & Beaching in Hilton Head

One of the best perks of Vacation Rentals is the ability to cook your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen– sometimes even looking out over the ocean! You can make memories and cook amazing meals in the comfort of your vacation home, and it only gets better when you can do so in your pajamas! If you didn’t already know, brunch is the new “it” meal of the weekend, but when you’re on vacation, it can be the “it” meal every morning! Plus, with tons of new and exciting recipes that blend the deliciousness of breakfast with some more sustaining and filling options to last you through lunch, this meal is perfect for a lazy morning before an afternoon at the beach!

We’ve put together some of our favorite brunch recipes that stray from the typical eggs and bacon or chocolate chip pancakes– although we don’t blame you if you want to stick to the classics! We’re giving you a sweet option, a savory option… and even a bubbly option!

  1. Bacon and Egg Croissant Squares:

If you’re a fan of the classic “bacon egg and cheese” sandwich, this may be the best breakfast spin-off ever! Rather than serving these delicious ingredients sandwich style, you layer them almost like a pizza! The flavors are amazing and the fluffy croissant only improves the entire meal!

Ingredients (2 Servings):

  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped basil, parsley, or Italian parsley

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Open and unroll the crescents onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Split the dough right down the middle, forming two large squares. Pinch the perforations together in each square.
  3. Fold up the edges of each square of dough (about 1/2 inch of the edge around each square).
  4. Crack two eggs into the center of each dough square. Place three slices of bacon across the eggs on each square. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of Parmesan cheese, and salt, and pepper to taste. (You can add other toppings if you want to! Anything goes!)
  5. Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges of the Crescent dough are golden brown and the eggs are cooked to your preference.

2. Cinnamon French Toast Muffins:

Nothing beats french toast… well, except a little bite-size version! These are sweet and easy to make, not to mention that you could easily toss some blueberries, banana slices, or really any other fruit into the muffin pan with the recipe and they would turn out amazing!

Ingredients (1 Dozen Muffins):

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon vanilla exract
  • 14 cups cubed bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a muffin tin with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla extract. Add the cubed bread to the bowl and fold until combined and the bread has absorbed all of the liquid.
  3. Cut the bread (slightly stale works best to absorb liquid) into 1/2 inch cubes.
  4. Divide the bread mixture among the muffin tin cups, pressing it lightly into each cup to compact it.
  5. Bake the French toast cups for 25 to 30 minutes until they’re slightly crisped on top and cooked throughout. Allow the cups to cool for 5 minutes in the muffin tin then scoop each one out and serve topped with maple syrup or vanilla glaze.

3. Popsicle Mimosas:

So… brunch isn’t complete without mimosas. Assuming you know how to make mimosas we thought– why not show a fun vacation spin on the classic! So, here we present popsicle mimosas. A mixture of bubbly and a childhood favorite doesn’t get much better (or easier) than this recipe!

  • Your favorite champagne
  • Store bought fruit popsicles (or you can make your own!)

  1. Place your popsicle into your glass
  2. Pour over the champagne.
  3. Enjoy!

There is no better place to enjoy food with friends and family than at your vacation rental beach house over a delicious brunch! You take care of the food and drinks, and we’ll take care of your rental reservation– Call us at 800-671-5155 or head over to beach-property.com!
