So what exactly is WingFest, you ask? WingFest is a food festival where 15-20 local restaurants will cook their hearts out to serve the community their best wings, in hopes of being crowned as having the Best Wings on Hilton Head Island. Beyond the food and drinks, which there is plenty of, there’s also great live music by local bands. There’s no better combo than wings, a cold beer, views of the ocean and sunset, and live music playing in the background!

BP Myth Busters: The Only Thing to do in Hilton Head is go to the beach…?

Hmm… as great as the beaches are, we beg to differ that they are the ONLY activity to enjoy here– there’s tons to do on Hilton Head Island! We’re busting this myth with 5 examples of other great activities on the island– other than the sand and sun!

  1. Sea Pines Forest PreserveImage result for forest preserve hhi
The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is one of Hilton Head’s greatest treasures. From a myriad of wildlife, beautiful serene paths and bridges, and Spanish moss hanging all around, this is an oasis away from the beach, with hours of exploring for you to do. From the swamps, to the lakes, to the tree covered walkways, you truly feel as though you are in a different and very special untouched world. Another great piece to the forest preserve is the picnic benches overlooking the lake, for a picnic after a little exploring. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is an absolute must on Hilton Head, and is so easily accessible from all of our properties— especially those that are in Sea Pines Plantation.
  2. Coastal Discovery Museum

Between their educational tours and classes that run every day, to their fun interactive museum, there’s tons to do here. There is a butterfly enclosure, live snakes, a beautiful gazebo and dock that walk out over the marshes for a beautiful view, and amazing employees who are more than willing to give you some information about whatever you’d like! This is a great spot for adults and children alike, and a wonderful place to get out of the sun for a couple of hours.

URBAN TREES VS. URBAN FORESTS: Why Biodiversity Matters- Wednesday, February 1st- 3 PM Join Sally Krebs the Sustainable Practices Coordinator for the Town of Hilton Head Island and learn why urban trees and forests matter. One of the most sustainable actions we can take is to help preserve earth’s biodiversity, the many different forms of life with which we share our planet. This presentation hopes to get you thinking in a whole new way about our urban forests and the organisms that live there!

SHORE BIRD MIGRATION –Friday, February 10th- 3 PM Every spring, thousands of shorebirds utilize South Carolina’s beach and marsh habitats. These habitats provide critical stopover areas for birds on their northbound migration to breeding sites, while others will nest in these beautiful coastal landscapes of South Carolina. Come learn about the important role SC plays in the life-cycle of spring migrants and local nesting species, and what we can do to protect this incredible part of our state’s natural heritage. Unleash Your Pup on Hilton Head During the Fall and Winter Seasons!

golden14

In the height of summer on the island, you likely won’t see any dogs on the beach… why is that? Because they are actually not allowed on the beach during the Summer from 10am-5pm due to high crowds and even higher heat!

The great news, however, is that your pup can roam free in the sand and water from October 1- February 28 whenever they please! Bring a tennis ball and let your dog swim to retrieve it, or laze the day away with your best friend by your side. The weather is so much more forgiving during the time of the year anyways, so your pup will surely thank you!

How To Find Dolphins on Hilton Head Island

Image result for hilton head dolphins

Dolphins are not hard to spot in Hilton Head’s waters. Dolphins usually are spotted feeding at low tide each day in the near by creeks and rivers, such as Skull Creek, Chechessee River, Colleton River, and the Broad River. Use this tide chart to figure out the best time each day to go out and find Dolphins. At high tide, you can also find dolphins, usually socializing and playing in larger herd numbers. They are more playful and social at high tide because they have already eaten at low tide.
