A new trend has hit local gourmets! Gather a few friends, shop at the Bluffton Farmer’s Market and pull it all together with a Farmer’s Market Dinner Party, using all the ingredients you have purchased.
The Farmer’s Market is the perfect place to find fresh and sustainable locally grown produce. The market prides itself on showcasing the best farmers in the area. Live music from colorful local performers wafts through the Spanish moss draping the live oaks, creating the perfect atmosphere to spend an afternoon shopping for fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, seafood, flowers, preserves, pasta, bread, pies and many other local favorites, including pecan brittle.
Here is a recipe for one of my favorite starters, Carrot Ginger Soup. Serve this soup chilled in the summer and warm in the winter! It is refreshing and comforting!
1 Tbsp Butter
1/2 cup Yellow Onions, diced
3 cups Chicken or Vegetable Stock
1 lbs Carrots, peeled and diced
2 Tbsp Fresh Ginger, grated
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
Pinch of White Pepper
Melt butter, add onions and sauté until onions are limp. Add stock, carrots and ginger. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until carrots are soft. Puree. Add cream and heat until hot. Add white pepper. Serve chilled or warm. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Yield: 4 servings Prep time: 20 minutes
The market is open on Thursdays from 2 pm until 7 pm.
