Visit the Audubon-Newhall Preserve

Enjoy the peace and tranquility that is Hilton Head by visiting one of the numerous nature preserves! Located just off Palmetto Bay Road, the Audubon-Newhall Nature Preserve nature preserve covers about 50 acres on the southern end of Hilton Head Island. There are several walking trails that lead through a wide variety of trees and shrubs, and are home to a number of animals and birds.

One of the more interesting features of this preserve is a rare pocosin, the Indian word for bog.  This wetlands bog was once a common characteristic of Lowcountry barrier islands, and home to a wide variety of trees, plants, birds and animals.

The preserve is open dawn to dusk and several parking spaces are available inside the entrance. The Audubon-Newhall Preserve is also a short walk or bike ride from the Coligny Beach area. A kiosk with information about the preserve and trail maps is located near the parking area.
