We All Scream For Ice Cream!

This is ice cream heaven and tops our list as the all-time favorite of vacationers and locals alike.  Hilton Head’s answer to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, this award-winning institution has been completely remodeled in candy-colored tones.  Most importantly, they’ve been making their own ice cream in-house since 1982.

Their unique flavors include Maple Bacon, Bananas Foster, and Pumpkin Cheesecake, but you can always get a terrific and more traditional French Vanilla or Lemon Sorbet.  They also have candy and homemade cookies.  And all the toppings are free!  Located in the Fountain Center shopping center on New Orleans Rd.

Kilwin’s at Shelter Cove Towne Centre

Perfectly located in the new Shelter Cove Towne Centre, this charming and friendly place is always jumping.  A great place to stop in after dinner at Poseidon or the Friday night outdoor concert in Shelter Cove Park, they tend to have a lively crowd until after 10pm.  Their Original Recipe Ice Cream is made at their headquarters in northern Michigan using the same high-quality ingredients, equipment, and processes that they’ve used since 1985 when they first began making their ice cream in small batches.  Kilwin’s is also famous for their fudge, brittles, and amazing caramels made in the store.

This place is all about selection and variety… boasting 92 flavors and including low-fat and no-sugar-added varieties as well as funny “kid’s flavors” like Smurf, Play Dough, and Pirate’s Plunder.  Being in Coligny Plaza and so close to the beach, it is a jolly scene with sunburned tourists in bathing suit cover-ups and flip-flops sharing a laugh.  Their ice cream is custom-made for them at a special plant in Florida using a specific pasteurization and homogenization process specifically for ice cream to ensure the best quality.

So, as they like to say in the Ice Cream Business:
