The History of Seafood on Hilton Head Island

The Coastal Discovery Museum‘s next history forum will be “Hilton Head’s Seafood Industry and Heritage” today at 3 p.m.

Tonya Hudson-DeSalve, a fourth-generation member of the Hudson family to work in the seafood industry on Hilton Head Island, will speak.

The Hudson’s came to Hilton Head in the late 1890’s to open oyster-shucking houses. Hudson-DeSalve is the owner of Benny Hudson Seafood Market on Squire Pope Road. She is the daughter of Benny and Barbara Hudson, the founders of Hudson’s seafood restaurant. For reservations to the forum, call 843-689-6767, Ext. 223.
