Bluffton is home to South Carolina’s only operational oyster shucking plant. Located where Wharf Road runs into the water, Bluffton Oyster Company processes May River Oysters. Everyday shuckers chisel the salty morsels from the sharp clusters of shells, just as did generations before them.
Every fall, local oyster roasts start popping up all across the Lowcountry, many are fundraisers for local charities. They make for a fun afternoon of great music, delicious oysters, meeting old friends and making new ones. It is a true taste of the Lowcountry at it’s finest.
