Driving to Hilton Head Island can be a daunting task for any family. By the time you finally arrive, tempers are flaring, kids are screaming and you are starving! Just imagine, you arrive, fresh as a daisy and HAPPY! A skycap grabs your bags and puts them in your rental car and you arrive at your oceanview villa within the hour! It is true, this can be you!
Allegiant Air has just announced flights from Cincinnati, Akron and Columbus to Savannah for $70 to $80 .These flights are planned to be seasonal for now. The more than 495 seats on the flights each week help Hilton Head tighten its grasp on the Ohio market, which is the island’s largest for incoming visitors, said Bill Miles, director of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce. However, more than three quarters of Ohioans typically drive to the island because they have never had convenient flights directly into the area, he said.
Savannah airport officials also have touted Allegiant’s addition as another step toward driving down ticket prices at the airport, spokeswoman Lori Lynah said this week. JetBlue began service to and from New York City and Boston early last year and ticket prices have since dropped more than 13 percent. That knocked the airport out of the ranking of the top five most expensive airfares among the country’s 100 largest airports.
