On an island where so much of the land is neatly manicured and behind gates, this 605-acre preserve feels like an oasis. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is located in the heart of the Sea Pines Community and includes forests, wetlands and ponds which are crisscrossed with 8 miles of hiking trails and a number of wooden boardwalks. You can visit the Indian Shell Ring, a mound of seashells left behind thousands of years ago by the nomadic Native American tribes who once inhabited the area. In spring, wildflower field is blooming with flowers and bird watchers will catch a glimpse of a wide variety of birds as they nest. The stocked ponds are only fish-able once you have gotten a fishing permit from Community Services and have a number of picnic areas surrounding them for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Spending an afternoon in the Preserve is a great way to be one with nature, to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to embrace the slow relaxed feel of Hilton Head Island!
