If you are lucky enough to be vacationing on Hilton Head during a month that has the letter “r” in it, then you might have a chance to attend a traditional lowcountry oyster roast! We are fortunate enough to have some of the worlds best oysters right across the bridge, in Bluffton, harvested from the May River. The Bluffton Oyster Factory is the last remaining oyster company on the South Carolina coast and gives us these sweet, salty, plump gems that we wait all summer for!
Most oyster roasts charge an all you can eat fee, however, the rest of it is up to you. Step up to the table, grab a knife and start shucking! If you are a newbie, you might want to ask for some pointers from your table mates. The Old Oyster Factory is holding a roast this Sunday the 24th, from 11-5, $20 all you can eat oysters and lowcountry boil, live entertainment and great views of Broad Creek. The Salty Dog is having their grand re-opening roast on Saturday the 23rd at 4:00 and will charge $6 for a dozen oysters. Get out there and get shuckin!
