Exploring Hilton Head Island and Beyond

During my first couple of months on Hilton Head Island, I have realized that while I have seen quite a bit of the island itself, there is always something else to see or somewhere new to go.  Recently, I have gotten back to my urge of hiking, taking pictures, and exploring.  And there is no better place for all of that than Hilton Head.  So I have begun to visit the most natural and beautiful aspects of this amazing island.

The first place that I have been to so far, is a little place called Pinckney Island. Pinckney Island is 8 miles long, and the walking trail is in the middle of the marsh. It is located approximately 4 miles past the tolls on the Cross Island Parkway, and is a little hidden treasure before your make your way towards the Mainland. If you love nature, and maybe have children that are adventurers, you will definitely want to make the very short 6 mile drive (from the Sea Pines Circle) to Pinckney Island. You and your family will be able to get up close and personal with the marsh land, and learn many things about what keeps the marsh going. There are signs with the different animals that frequent the marsh, and you will most likely run into a few blue heron, egrets and much other wildlife that you wouldn’t normally see everyday

At Pinckney, you can observe the wildlife, all the while spending quality time with your family. Not only will you get to see amazing creatures, but you will be able to get in a great walk to the Ibis Pond, Osprey Pond, and Club House Pond.  There are different trails that you will be able to go on, but each one is just as beautiful as the next.  Pinckney is in the middle of Mackay Creek and Skull creek, which is on Intracoastal Waterway, and the really neat thing about Pinckney Island is that there are much smaller islands (Buzzard Island) that surround it as well. There is so much to discover on Pinckney Island, just as there is so much to discover all over Hilton Head.  It is a short drive off the island to this natural treasure.

Check back to see where Hilton Head Island takes me on my next adventure! I will be exploring this Island, as well as some close areas off the island as much as I possibly can, and I want to share it with you, because finding a new place to explore will definitely keep you and your family happy and excited throughout your Hilton Head vacation!
